SIGGRAPH 2000 – News!

NEW ORLEANS —

SIGGRAPH 2000, or “S2K” as it has come to be known, was put together over 28 months of extensive planning.  Jackie White, conference chair, shoulder much of the burden of organizing the event.

And thankfully, there was lots of exciting innovation featured at the show.

SIGGRAPH’s focus on education and fostering relationships within the graphics community was able to come through strongly, thanks to relatively few major product announcements.

There were, however, a few industry OG’s that did have announcement of note.  Alias/Wavefront promised to port their product Maya over to Linux (much to the delight of many Linux-enthusiasts in the graphics community).

One may recall a lively debate between the heads of major studios Pixar and PDI at last years SIGGRAPH 99.  During a panel discussion, they argued whether one environment provided any benefit over any other.  Should studios remain “technology-agnostic”?  This years movement towards linux seems to show evidence otherwise.
